I don’t need to remind you of this: the world is too fast. Every damn moment, if we let it, is filled with notifications, deadlines, news stories, and the mess of thoughts, worries, comparisons, and judgements that come along with all of that.

Amongst all of that it seems to me there’s something powerful, almost revolutionary, about choosing to slow down.

And that’s what this post is here to help you do: make that slowing-down choice.

Restorative yoga is rooted in that slowing-down power. It’s about intentionally slowing down and giving your body, breath, and mind the time required to settle and heal.

It’s like an invite to experience the slowing-down. This kind of yoga is designed especially for those of us carrying too much tension, too much worry, and anyone needing a bit more ease.

There’s no vinyasa in sight. And this is where folks get yoga confused; it’s unbelievably varied in how it can be practice. This type of yoga is about deep, soothing poses, sometimes deliciously (and I mean that word in its entirety) supported by props, like the bolster in the class below.

We’ll start with gentle movement, perfect if you’ve been holding tension in your shoulders or upper back, before shifting into a space of moving less; with the stillness that comes with restorative yoga, your body has time to unwind at a much deeper level, releasing stored tensions.

What happens, I suppose paradoxically, is you’ll probably become super aware of your racing mind, the fidgeting, that impulse to go and do anything else.

Suddenly, you’ll have an enormous urge to clean your kitchen cabinets, or mow the lawn, or dust your books.

But, my friend, this is where the deep work starts to happen. Notice those impulses as a consequence of living in a world that’s teaching you to be constantly doing more, scrolling every three seconds, training your brain to be hyper un-focused.

Allow the fidgeting to be there, see what it really feels like, and you’ll start to allow the concept of be-ing rather than do-ing to take over.

And trust me: you can clean your cabinets later.

By moving with intention and resting in this way, we’re actively encouraging our chaotic minds to let go of all of it, and your body to release what it’s holding onto. It’s a chance to reset, to shift our focus to the present, and to reclaim a sense of calm.

If you’re feeling the weight of the past few weeks, if you feel anxious, drained, overwhelmed, any of it…. this class is here for you. This session will help you sleep better, process emotions, and find patience and peace.
