Day 7: Rooted, not rushed
End your 7-day reset with a powerful pause — ground, reconnect, and get perspective.
We made it, my friend: today is the final day of The 7-Day Nervous System Reset (find all previous sessions here).
Whether you’ve taken this series day by day, or you’ve just managed to show up for yourself a smidge more than usual, you’ve done something really meaningful here. You’ve started rewiring your nervous system for more ease, calm, and joy, and that’s a bigger deal than you know (and these sessions aren’t going anywhere if you want to revisit them).
Today, I want to invite you to lean into something that’s both ancient and endlessly renewing:
Nature.
Nature isn’t just pretty scenery, it’s a biological safety cue.
Being in or even just imagining natural environments taps into our nervous system’s deep wiring for calm and connection. This feeling of being part of something bigger than our own worries about interest rates, cellulite, and trolls on social media helps us settle stress, slow our breathing, and soften reactivity.
Nature’s rhythms — like the steadiness of ocean waves, the movement of trees, or the rising and setting sun — mirror our own internal rhythms. When we attune to those rhythms, we teach our nervous system to relax and reset.
This is why even just a few moments with nature — or even imagining it — can shift us from fight/flight into rest and digest.
It’s biology, baby.
Missed the start or want to go deeper? Nervous System 101 is your go-to — a clear, honest look at why this reset matters.
Try this today
Here’s your final reset practice in this series:
Find a quiet spot (indoors or out) where you can sit comfortably.
Close your eyes and take three slow breaths, noticing your inhale and exhale.
Imagine yourself somewhere in nature — it might be by the ocean, under a tree, in a meadow, on a mountain…
Tune into the sensations of being in that place; the sounds you can hear, the sensations you can feel.
Let your breath start to sync with that rhythm — smooth it out, taking steady inhales and exhales. Recognising the oxygen that’s nourishing you is a waste product of photosynthesis; you’re quite literally connected to the green leafy things around you.
Stay with this for a few minutes, giving yourself space to soften, your mind to quiet, and something deeper in you to feel connected to the bigger whole.
This simple nature visualisation isn’t just escapism, and it’s more than simply meditation — it’s a properly impactful nervous system tool rooted in biology. It leverages the brain’s ancient safety cues and the calming power of natural rhythms to help you reset and return to ease.
